Looking to fill a general facility/grounds maintenance position:

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Lead Mechanic and/or Facility Director engages in repair, maintenance and installation of machines and equipment and in the maintenance of the buildings, grounds and utility systems of the facility(s) and the School Sisters of St. Francis owned houses. Performs a wide variety of maintenance/repair tasks requiring a good working knowledge of various trade fundamentals including plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, electrical, etc. Experience with snow removal/lawn cutting required.

 

Full time - 80 hours per pay period, 7:00am-3:30pm Monday-Friday. Rotating on-call schedule, every 4 weeks.

Flexibility is expected during inclement weather when snow plowing is necessary.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Associate degree or degree in mechanical field preferred. Minimum of three years’ experience in building trades. Knowledge of machines and tools necessary. Carpentry experience a bonus.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:

Building trade certificates, licenses and registration desirable.

Valid, unencumbered State of Wisconsin Driver License required.

Successful candidates will:

1. Performs maintenance tasks that include electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc. of the buildings.

2.. Participates in roof maintenance and repairs as directed by the Lead Mechanic and/or Facility Director.

3. Requisitions building maintenance supplies, material and equipment, monitors inventory; load and unloads supplies.

4. Displays knowledge of and participates in snow removal and grounds keeping.

5. Maintains a constant awareness of the conditions of the grounds including cleaning up garbage and landscaping needs.

6. Ensures all lighting in the parking lot areas and on the grounds are functioning.

7. Demonstrates knowledge and the ability to work in electrical, electronic, mechanic, hydraulic and building maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.

8. Participates in the repair of the HVAC systems, performs routine HVAC system preventative maintenance work; determines HVAC system problems and makes recommendations for repair under the direction of the Lead Mechanic and/or Facility Director

9. Reports malfunctions in machinery and equipment to the Lead Mechanic and/or Facility Director.

10. Assists in the inspections of machines/equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and for conformance with operational standards.

11. Adheres to safety requirements when using high risk equipment.

12. Ability to drive safely and observes all road and safety regulations.

13. Notifies the Lead Mechanic and/or Facility Director when the fleet vehicles need maintenance and/or repair; keeps the vehicles clean and in good working order.

14. May travel to different sites to inspect buildings and grounds for routine maintenance, repairs and renovations.

15. Set-up rooms, delivers and takes down tables and chairs for special events.

16. Move and relocate office furniture, resident room furniture etc.

17. Assembles and set-up new furnishings as needed.

18. Organizes and prioritizes work tasks, performs duties efficiently and reacts quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

19. Takes responsibility to ensure the highest satisfaction of Sisters, staff, tenants and guests.

20. Handles conflict positively and appropriately, resolves issues and deficiencies when needed and seeks guidance as needed. Refers concerns as appropriate with clarity and accuracy to the Lead Mechanic and/or Facility Director Sacred Heart when needed.

21. Communicates concerns to the appropriate person with a focus on problem-solving verses blaming.

22. Actively promotes cooperation and teamwork among peers to get the work done.

23. Approaches changes and challenges with a positive attitude that promotes teamwork in the department.

24. Participates in open communication and joint decision-making.

25. Willing to be a part of an opportunity to improve department performance and effectiveness.

26. Demonstrates the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented, communicates information and ideas so others will understand, and can recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.

27. Demonstrates a welcoming atmosphere to new staff and is a supportive mentor.

28. Accepts coaching on issues to improve current job skills or to learn new ones.

29. Supports the Lead Mechanic and/or the Facility Director in development of specific department goals and plans and communicates same to the staff in prioritizing, organizing and accomplishing tasks.

30. Works collaboratively with other department staff in meeting the needs of the Sisters.

31. Maintains a neat, well-groomed appearance following applicable dress code policy.

32. Performs other duties or assignments as requested by the Lead Mechanic, the Facility Director and/or Executive Director.
