Welder /Trailer Mechanic Duties/Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
• Perform annual/systematic 90 day and HM-183 inspections (trailers) on equipment as required.
• Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
• Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
• Order and receive parts and supplies as needed.
• Adheres to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards to include identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
• Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
• Using welding equipment.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
• Perform HM-183 DOT inspections (P,V,I,K,L,HS,UC,) (EPA-M27)

Welder / Trailer Mechanic Required Skills/Abilities: 

• Must possess at least 3/4 years of experience in repair and service of trailers and medium duty trucks.
• Required to have demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and equipment theory, principles and repair relating to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. 
• Minimum of 3 years experience of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations.
• Ability to use vehicle diagnostic software.
• Minimum of 3/4 years as a fleet mechanic. 
• Minimum of 3/4 years of DOT HM-183 certification, training or experience. ASE Certification not required but recommended.
• Minimum of 3 years operating welding equipment (TIG), R-stamp Certification.
• High school diploma, completion of G.E.D. required.

Experience

• 3 year(s): Operate welding equipment (TIG)
• R-stamp Certification
• 3 - 4 years: fleet mechanic. DOT HM-183 certification, Training or experience
• knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.
• 3 - 4 years: experience in repair and service of trailers and medium duty trucks.
