Description:

Responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining screen printing presses to produce high-quality printed materials according to customer specifications. Duties include preparing raw materials, setting up screens and inks, adjusting press settings for proper registration and ink application, monitoring product quality throughout the press run, and performing routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment.

  • Using the job jacket establishes what steps are needed on the job.
  • Checks load for proper raw stock, loads into press feeder and removes protective materials and empty skids.
  • Checks screens and inks for proper specifications. Sets up press with screens and ink for scheduled orders.
  • Adjusts press to obtain proper register and proper ink and coating application, per customer specifications.
  • Adjusts conveyors as needed to assure proper curing of ink.
  • Removes excess ink and cleans screens and press components.
  • Inspects printed product after pressrun and adjusts settings and ink viscosity for quality reproduction or shuts down press and makes adjustments and repairs.
  • Keeps count of completed product on each run to record numbers on the job jacket.
  • At end of shift operator cleans area, equipment and informs supervisor of any mechanical, material or other problems that caused issues during the day.
Requirements:
  • High school degree or general education (GED); six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate one-on-one with other employees.
  • Skill to complete basic math skills; add, subtract, etc.
  • Skill to apply common sense understanding to carry work details.
  • Skill and ability with problems involving material and ink needed to produce job.
  • Knowledge of slitting process in finishing.
  • Knowledge of laminating process in finishing.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and stoop; use hands and arms to reach, handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. Gloves are requires when working with chemicals. Protective eye wear is required when filling container with chemical. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level is usually moderate.
