Position Summary

The Youth Sports Coordinator manages and delivers youth sports and camp programs, including basketball leagues, sports clinics, and summer day camps. Responsibilities include supervising staff, ensuring safe and inclusive environments, engaging youth in skill-building activities, and coordinating with families, staff, and community partners. The role aligns all activities with the YMCA's focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Job Responsibilities

Program Planning & Implementation
  • Develop and follow annual work plans with clear goals and timelines.
  • Plan and manage school-year and summer camp programs, including scheduling, activities, meals, and enrichment.
  • Lead after-school sports and camp programs.
  • Maintain safe, inclusive, and accessible program environments.
  • Identify and address participation challenges.
Staff Management & Training
  • Assist with hiring, supervising, and training staff and volunteers.
  • Schedule staff and provide direct program support when needed.
  • Lead staff meetings, training sessions, and performance reviews.
  • Observe and provide constructive feedback to staff.
Community Engagement & Outreach
  • Promote programs to recruit and retain participants.
  • Build relationships with families, schools, and community partners.
  • Maintain accurate participant records and registration materials.
Youth Support & Safety
  • Supervise participants and apply proactive behavior strategies.
  • Use restorative and de-escalation techniques when needed.
  • Ensure equipment is safe, available, and appropriate.
Administration & Compliance
  • Complete program-related administrative tasks.
  • Communicate promptly with parents and caregivers.
  • Follow safety, risk management, and reporting procedures.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

This role is active and involves both indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions. Staff engage with youth in recreational, educational, and physical activities, which may require standing, walking, running, bending, lifting, and carrying equipment up to 25 pounds. The position requires alertness and strong visual and auditory awareness to ensure participant safety. Team members must adapt to a fast-paced environment, maintain a positive and energetic attitude, and respond appropriately to occasional behavioral challenges

Salary Description

The rate for the Youth Sports Coordinator position ranges from $22.10 to $26.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications, and is aligned with current salary benchmarking standards. Compensation is contingent upon grant fund approval and program budget availability.

Qualifications
  • Age 21+ with high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years working with youth; 1+ year in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in youth sports, recreation, or related programs.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Youth sports coaching experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, or Tagalog.
  • Experience with restorative practices and de-escalation strategies.
