This Is What You Will Do

Reporting to the Executive Medical Director, Hematology & Nephrology, the Medical Affairs Director, Amyloidosis, will contribute to strategic planning, tactical execution and leadership in Amyloidosis (light chain and TTR) in the US Medical team, providing strong scientific and medical perspective with an in-depth understanding of the amyloidosis-related medical landscape. The incumbent will contribute to development and implementation of short- and long-term strategies for inline and pipeline assets, aligning with Alexions organizational strategy and ensuring cross-functional collaboration at the US level. The Medical Director, Amyloidosis, will work with global Medical counterparts to support the Global Medical Affairs mission to improve patient outcomes by advancing evidence-based medical standards of care.

You Will Be Responsible For

  • Developing and facilitating the medical (amyloidosis) strategic plan for US Medical Affairs activities (pre-, peri- and post-launch as applicable), providing medical leadership, insights and strategy to the US Amyloidosis medical team.
  • Under the leadership of the Executive Medical Director, providing medical strategic and tactical plans for late-phase pipeline programs in Amyloidosis and future programs in the therapeutic area.
  • Leading the situational assessment of the patient journey and the US product strategy development, including harmonization of activities with KOLs cross-functionally.
  • Developing in-year medical strategy and tactical plans for the US Medical Affairs team for Amyloidosis.
  • Contributing scientific and medical acumen to registration programs working closely with Global Medical Affairs.
  • Reviewing and ensuring alignment of ISR proposals with Amyloidosis strategic areas of interest.
  • Providing medical guidance on scientific communications, internal medical training, external medical education (CME, symposia), and medical information.
  • Contributing medical perspective to commercial strategy as appropriate.
  • Supporting the TA lead with the teams performance against goals and delivery of US medical plans.
  • Serving as a medical expert and resource within ALXN for the therapeutic area.
  • Leading content development and presentation for external medical education programs and other medical initiatives.
  • Developing and conducting therapeutic training programs for Alexion personnel.
  • Establishing strategic partnerships with Centers of Excellence, Amyloidosis Treatment Centers, MDTs and KOLs; managing information flow to the medical community and inside the company.
  • Collaborating with Field Medical to develop and execute US KOL engagement strategies.
  • Developing relationships with key academic institutions and thought leaders.
  • Planning, designing and managing medical Advisory Boards; gathering insights from national/regional/local boards.

You Will Need To Have

  • MD, PhD or PharmD or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Hematology, Hemato-oncology, Cardiology or Nephrology is a plus
  • 35+ years in Medical Affairs or related industry functions
  • Ability to work in a matrix, cross-functional environment, both in-office and remotely
  • Strong teamwork, with ability to motivate a team including remote personnel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of delivering results
  • Experience managing budgets and resources
  • Strong scientific, clinical and business acumen
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing environments
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and negotiating skills
  • Energetic, ethical, and with integrity; strong understanding of US regulatory environment
  • Travel up to 25%
  • Role typically office-based; must be able to use computer, engage in communications, problem solving and collaboration during standard business hours
